BSc Engineering (Hons) in Civil Engineering

Requirements:

Local A/Ls: Minimum of 2 "C" passes & 1 "S" pass in the Physical Science stream (Covering Combined Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry).


Cambridge/Edexcel A/Ls: Minimum of 2 "B" passes & 1 "C" pass (Covering Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry).


Applicants should also pass the Aptitude Test conducted by SLIIT.

Description:

With a strong focus on building theoretical and practical based study, the Bsc in Civil Engineering incorporates the students to gain hand in experience in real time assignments, group projects, and co-curricular activities. The students are required to attend an internship in their vacation period as a part of their degree.


Program Outcomes


Apply knowledge of mathematics, basic sciences and engineering to solve complex engineering problems.


Identify, formulate and analyse complex civil engineering problems reaching valid conclusions.


Design systems, components, or processes to meet desired needs within realistic constraints.


Investigate complex civil engineering problems using research-based knowledge and research methods, including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data.


Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools necessary to complete complex civil engineering activities.


Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess the impacts of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, societal, legal, cultural, and health & safety context.


Apply broad knowledge of sustainable development concepts and practices required for dealing with issues related to professional engineering practice.


Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

Function effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team as a team member, manager or team leader.


Communicate complex engineering activities to a variety of audiences by means of appropriate designs, plans, reports, presentations and instructions.


Apply broad knowledge of engineering, management and finance to manage engineering projects.


Engage in life-long learning through continually extending and building on professional understanding and skills acquired during undergraduate learning.

Graduates are employed as Structural Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers, Environmental Engineers, Water Resources Engineers, Consulting/Design engineers, Contracting Engineers, Engineering Project Managers, Building Services Engineers, Irrigation Engineers, Coastal Engineers, Infrastructure Planning Engineers, Engineering regulators, Quality control and quality assurance Engineers, Marketing Engineers, and also as Academics and Researchers.


COURSE FEE


A semester fee of Rs. 425,000 will have to be paid to SLIIT for a period of 4 years. (Please Note that a year comprises of 2 Semesters)
