BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance

Requirements:

The minimum qualifications required for admission on the standard route are:

 A. GCE Advanced Level

  • Sri Lankan: 3 passes or
  • London, Cambridge or Edexcel : 3 D passes or
  • Any combination totaling to 12 points from the following tariff scheme:

Or

Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology Degree Foundation

And

 B. GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level – Credit Pass (Grade 4) for English

 Or

C. Equivalent qualifications

The minimum qualifications required for admission on the accelerated route are:

– GCE Advanced Level (Sri Lankan, London, Cambridge or Edexcel) – 3 C passes and

– GCE/GCSE Ordinary Level – Credit Pass (Grade 4) for English

You may apply pending A/L results. Applicants with additional qualifications may receive advanced entry.

Description:

Overview

Finance and accounting are no longer just about taxation and the management of financial capital. This award will help students will discover finance and accounting underpin modern business enterprises. It will give students a deeper understanding of the crucial role of finance in organisational decision making and the pursuit of competitive advantage. Students will graduate with an entrepreneurial mindset and the contemporary financial and accounting skills required to survive and thrive in uncertain business environments. Through this degree, students will study the full spectrum of contemporary finance and business enterprise.


On successful completion of the BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, students will be awarded with a Staffordshire University degree


Teaching & Learning

The themes of (1) digital skills, (2) entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship, (3) society, ethics and community, (4) sustainability and climate change, and (5) research methods and inquiry are embedded throughout the curriculum.

There is a focus on employability throughout the three awards. The common modules in the first year cover careers talks, visits and guest speakers from industry along with the opportunity for students to take up a role within the team on live projects throughout their course. In the second year, students will develop their reflective practice when they are assessed on their employability skills that complement the business skills they have developed. In the final year, students will apply their skills whilst researching a topic in a ‘consultancy’ based module. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the development of their own business.

Throughout the course, assessments are usually case study based simulations or linked to real-life business challenges. There are numerous additional learning opportunities embedded into the curriculum which involve practical work and industry collaboration. For example, students will undertake a feasibility study and identify the potential for a new social enterprise by developing an entrepreneurial solution to address the social issue which has been identified. Students will also have the opportunity for consultancy work for a real-life organization by working alongside the latter to identify and resolve an issue faced by the business.
